Here is her (edited) entry…
I was just leaning towards Dave to snog him, without any kind of accidental snogging involved, when his mate James came along.
“All right, mate?” he said, in a ‘lad chat’ kind of way, banging Dave‘s shoulder.
“Yeah mate, I‘m as good as two good things.” Then Dave turned to me. “Gee, this is James, he goes to my school, James, this is Georgia.
“Is this Georgia that you‘re on about at school? The one that you liked, but she was messing you about, and you said you decided that you‘re just mates with? Come on, you can‘t start snogging her now, it‘s just not fair.”
I was in shock. I couldn‘t actually say anything. Did Dave really say that about me?
James then saw the awkwardness he‘d just caused and walked off to Dave‘s other mates pretty fast. My eyes filled with tears. I had loved Dave for about a minute before he turned on me.
“Gee, look… I didn‘t mean to… I was still with…”
But I couldn’t take it any more. I stepped away from him and gave him my one final worst look, before walking home as fast as I could.
I got home and he was already at my gate. He looked so sad. He looks so gorgeous when he’s sad, but he’s such a happy person normally, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him like that before.
I didn’t say anything, I tried to walk past, with dignitosity at all times. But he grabbed my hand as I was going through my gate.
“Georgia, I know I shouldn’t have said that, but I was still with Emma when I said that, and James is friends with Emma. He didn’t want me to end it because he knew it would break her heart. Anyway, I’m guessing you don’t want to go out with me now. It’s ok. I understand. We can be matey-type mates like we used to be, with no harm done.”
The thing is though, whatever Dave does or says, it doesn‘t change how I feel.
“Dave… I want to be… matey-type mates if you do but… also I… I still…” But I didn’t get to finish. He stepped back, and held me at arm’s length. I could see a tear in his eye.
“Georgia, everything’s going to be ok, we’re mates now, and it can stay that way, that’s what you want isn’t it? See you soon, maybe we could meet up next week sometime? Have fun, like the good old times? Never eat anything bigger than your head, Gee.” But he said it so sadly it didn’t sound like the Dave the Laugh that I knew. The tear left his eye and crept slowly down his face as he turned away.
And he walked down my street, around the corner, and out of sight. I wanted to run after him, but I was so jelloid that I couldn’t move from the spot.
Half an hour later
The party is really going now. Everyone is up and dancing along with me and Dave doing mad dancing in the middle of the floor.
“Gee, shall we quit the scene for a bit. You are quite literally as red as a tomato. Do you want a drink?”
Dave got us drinks and led me outside.
“So, how’s it going? How is Stalag 14 since the Rom and Jule that will be in the history books thanks to the Vati?”
“Dave, you said ‘Are these my basoomas I see before me?’ and everybody heard.” Well, what else do you say?
He laughed at that. He has such a lovely smile. And I’ve never noticed before, he has really lovely eyes. Really dark brown, and so deep you could just get lost in them. We were just smiling at each other for what seemed like a lifetime, I could feel the snogging tension (oo-er).
Oh, I can’t wait any longer. So I went and snogged him there and then.
A while later
We were just going past Number Six and into Six and a Half. Dave is the best snogger of the century. Especially when he nibbles my lips-
“Ouch! What was that Dave?” We broke apart.
“Sorry, Kittykat, I forgot I was wearing these.
And in his hand, were a pair of fake Vampire fangs.
“You fool, Dave.” And suddenly I couldn’t stop laughing, and neither could he. I knew from that minute, that whatever happened, there would never be a boring moment with Dave around, and I knew that, finally, after all the mess of the last while, that everything was going to be alright.
